The Pathway to Hope, a pedestrian walkway, symbolically reconnects the Greenwood District. The 10-foot by 900-foot route provides a walking path between John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park and the new Greenwood Rising Center and other core sites in the Greenwood District.

The name ‘Pathway to Hope’ is quite fitting because it is just that. The path acknowledges the history and celebrates Black Wall Street icons with artistic photographs, plaques, and inspirational quotes. A team of visionaries, designers, engineers, and community groups provided valuable input for creating this project.

The Crossland Heavy team had to make sure they kept the highway stabilized while working on the new construction. Crews drilled 50 feet into the side of the hill to stabilize the earth, shoring the hill with a soil nail wall.
They then poured cast-in-place walls to stabilize the highway further. To add a decorative aspect to the retaining wall, the team used a barn wood formliner.

Several challenges arose throughout the project. After construction began, we had record snow and ice as well as design alterations. However the Crossland Heavy team remained diligent in keeping the project on track.

Crossland understood the significance of this project and the importance of meeting the tight timeline for the dedication on June 1, 2021- the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. To get there, our crews often worked seven days a week, sunrise to sunset.

This project displays the beauty of learning and healing while remembering the road that got us here. Crossland Heavy was honored to be a part of such a meaningful project.
