Other Top Firms Said It Was Impossible. We Asked, “When Can We Start?”

Gathering Place, Tulsa OK

The George Kaiser Family Foundation had a simple yet powerful vision—to build a place that connects the people of Tulsa. The result was Gathering Place, a breathtaking 98-acre park along the Arkansas River, made possible by the largest private gift to a public park system in U.S. history. However, the project faced challenges early on, running $50 million over budget under initial management. That’s when Crossland got the call. We met with the Kaiser Foundation, stepped in, and turned things around—bringing the project within budget and locking in a firm completion date.

Working alongside world-renowned architect Michael Van Valkenburgh, our team studied top-ranked parks nationwide, incorporating the best elements into Gathering Place’s final design. The park now features state-of-the-art playgrounds, stunning green spaces, six miles of interconnected paths, and multiple bridges, including two land bridges over Riverside Drive. A true community treasure, Gathering Place was delivered on time, within budget, and went on to receive the 2018 Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors.

A modern, white-roofed pavilion stands on stilts above a green landscape, overlooking a calm pond surrounded by trees and vegetation, under a clear blue sky.
A vibrant playground features three metal slides built into a rocky hill, with blue rubber flooring and large shade sails overhead. Greenery and trees surround the area under a clear, sunny sky.
Outdoor patio with wooden tables and chairs under a modern white canopy, surrounded by green trees and plants on a sunny day. The area is bright, spacious, and inviting, with natural light and blue sky visible.

Coler Trail + Mountain Bike Preserve

Nestled in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve is a premier outdoor destination designed to challenge mountain bikers and connect visitors with nature. Just five minutes from downtown Bentonville, this expansive refuge underwent a major transformation when the City of Bentonville partnered with Crossland Construction and Crossland Heavy to enhance trails, restore historic structures, and add modern amenities. The project evolved beyond its original scope, incorporating bridge repairs, stream restoration, and new structures, all while preserving the character and history of the land.

Crews restored two early 1900s barns, converting one into a loft with a giant hammock net and the other into a live music venue with an accordion-style door. A new hillside café with a rooftop patio, a beer garden, and custom swings offer relaxation for visitors, while hammock stands, yoga platforms, and a unique open-air pavilion add to the preserve’s charm. Crossland Heavy played a key role in pouring and rehabbing 9,500 LF of concrete trails, installing structural steel trail bridges, and returning a pond to its natural state. From preconstruction planning to execution, Crossland delivered a value-engineered, on-budget, and on-time project that will be enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts for generations to come.

Osage Park

Bentonville, AR – Crossland Construction has partnered with experts across the industry—architects, designers, painters, masons, plumbers—and even beavers. When we took on Osage Park in Bentonville, Arkansas, we knew we were building in a 12-acre wetland ecosystem, home to some of nature’s most prolific builders. Designed as an urban park blending recreation with conservation, Osage Park offers fishing, archery, canoeing, biking, and more. To protect the wetland while ensuring accessibility, Crossland installed a boardwalk trail and eight fishing piers using 1,300 helical piles, a method commonly used for bridges and boardwalks to distribute weight underground.

Beyond the wetlands, Crossland built pickleball courts, a bocce ball court, a dog park, a custom ping pong table, and a pavilion for live events, along with seven food truck spaces to enhance the park’s community appeal. Our team planted 48,000 native plugs and 940 trees, installed a boat ramp for Arkansas Fish and Game, and placed 20 fish habitats in Lake Bentonville. Constructing in an active wetland came with challenges, including managing constant water levels using pumps that ran 24/7. Despite the complexities, Osage Park stands as a testament to sustainable development, merging recreation, conservation, and innovation into one extraordinary public space.
