Sar Ko Park Trails Park Lake and Dam Improvements
Project timeline driven by BBQ State Championships
Lenexa, KS
Crossland Heavy Contractors was contracted by the City of Lenexa and the Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department to complete this high profile project with an aggressive, accelerated contractual deadline for completion.
Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park with Rose’s Pond is the home of the annual Lenexa BBQ State Championship, which attracts over 200 competition teams from around the Midwest. The city gave CHC the task to construct improvements and have the park reopened and ready for the annual competition.
Crossland Heavy constructed a new spillway structure and elevated walkway consisting of over 500 cubic yards of structural concrete, a half mile of concrete trail, and two at-grade pedestrian boardwalks. They also removed 10,000 cubic yards of undesirable material from the pond, expanded the existing parking lot, and relocated an existing sewer line. CHC crews expanded and enhanced the pond shoreline with new decorative limestone rocks, added fish habitats, and planted native grasses and wetland vegetation.
Crossland Heavy Contractors self-performed approximately 85% of the work, which provided better quality, production, and control of the schedule. The project was completed on time and was dedicated at the BBQ Championship in June 2012.
