At Crossland, the Red Iron Award is one of the highest honors we give. Named after our founder, it reflects the four principles he built this company on, Trust, Responsibility, Integrity, and Passion. It’s the question we ask ourselves on tough days and big jobs: “What would Red Iron do?”
This award goes to someone who doesn’t just know those principles, but they live them.
This year, that person is Scotty Brice.
Scotty is the definition of what this award stands for.
Building the Standard
Everyone who has crossed paths with Scotty knows the same thing: he’s exceptional. He raises the bar without making noise about it. He works hard, he works smart, and he does things the right way, every time.
He’s respected company-wide because he’s the teammate everyone wants on their job. The younger generation looks up to him, and they should. He’s the kind of builder you model a career after.
The Full Package
Scotty brings the full package to every project he touches, technical skill, financial understanding, schedule discipline, and a level of ownership that’s rare.
As Tom Allen, President of Cushman & Wakefield | Sage Partners, puts it:
“He understands finance, construction budgets, and the importance of delivering on time. He’s the complete package when it comes to managing a $100 million project.”
Internally, you hear the same thing: Scotty knows his work inside and out. He’s structured, process-driven, and always thinking three steps ahead. He makes the people around him better. He makes the work better.
A Leader People Listen To
Scotty isn’t someone who chases attention.
As John Priest, President of CCC, says:
“He’s not one that takes all the glory himself. He gives it to his team. He’s a tough leader, but a great leader. When he speaks, everybody gets quiet and listens.”
That combination of humility, toughness, and respect creates the kind of culture we want on every project.

Behind the Scenes
Scotty might come off serious, but people close to him know better. Beneath that gruff exterior is a big-hearted, wicked-smart, quick-to-laugh “grizzly teddy bear,” as one coworker put it.
He has a legendary belly laugh. But what people value most is simple:
When Scotty is on your job, you breathe easier. Teams say it the same way every time, we’re in good hands. If Scotty is there, the relationship will be solid, the work will be right, and the owner will want us back.
A Well-Earned Honor
This award means a lot, because Scotty has poured a lot into Crossland. His mentorship has shaped careers. His leadership has built trust with owners and partners across the region. And his character has strengthened this company in ways that go far beyond a jobsite.
His partners and colleagues say it best:
“Thank you for all you’ve done for Hunt Ventures and Sage Partners. Getting to know you over the years has been a blessing.”
“The confidence you’ve given us is well deserved. Your family is proud of you. The company is proud of you. Thank you for everything you do and for the way you represent Crossland.”
Congratulations, Scotty.
You’ve earned this in every possible way.
Thank you for setting a standard people want to rise to.
Thank you for the impact you’ve made on our teams, our clients, and our company.
We’re proud to honor you with the Red Iron Award.
And we’re even prouder to work beside you.
