Anna Fire Station #2
Anna Fire Station Two: Strengthening Emergency Services in a Growing Community
Anna, TX
As the city of Anna, Texas, continues to grow, so does the need for enhanced emergency services. The completion of Fire Station Two ensures faster response times and expanded capabilities for first responders, providing a vital resource for the community. This $10.2 million, 21,000+ square-foot facility is strategically located west of US-75 and north of FM-455, allowing emergency personnel to reach more residents efficiently and effectively.
A Modern, Fully Equipped Fire Station
Designed to meet the needs of a modern fire department, Fire Station Two is equipped with cutting-edge technology and functional spaces that support both emergency response and daily operations.
Six pull-through apparatus bays provide ample space for both frontline and reserve equipment, ensuring firefighters have rapid access to the tools they need. The bays feature natural finishes that enhance durability and aesthetic appeal.
A smart station alert system enhances response efficiency, improving reaction times for emergency calls.
Sleeping quarters for up to 10 personnel offer comfortable accommodations for firefighters during their shifts, allowing them to rest while remaining ready for deployment.
A spacious dayroom, fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and patio provide essential amenities for daily living and team-building among the fire crew.
A physical agility room ensures firefighters can maintain peak physical fitness, an essential component of their demanding roles.
A dedicated museum space showcasing an antique 1948 fire truck preserves the city’s firefighting history and serves as an educational feature for visitors.
Pre-Construction Planning & Value Engineering
During the pre-construction phase, budgeting and scheduling expertise helped drive the project’s success. By providing strategic oversight during the Design Development (DD), Schematic Design (SD), and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) phases, costs were controlled while ensuring quality.
To expedite the timeline, early release packages were issued, allowing civil work to commence while the station’s final design and budgeting were being completed. This proactive approach minimized delays and optimized resources.
Self-Performed Concrete Work & Quality Assurance
A key aspect of this project was the self-performance of concrete work. This included precise execution of piers and grade beams. In an added quality control measure, the team uncovered these elements for third-party verification, ensuring compliance with structural depth requirements. This extra step reinforced the integrity of the foundation and demonstrated a commitment to superior craftsmanship.
Overcoming Challenges & Delivering Cost Savings
Like many large-scale projects, Fire Station Two faced unexpected challenges. Inclement weather contributed to a 30-day delay, and structural subgrade issues required rework—challenges that emerged during construction and required additional attention to resolve. Despite these hurdles, the project remained financially efficient. Cost-saving measures implemented during the buyout phase provided funds back to the city, ultimately keeping the project under budget without sacrificing quality.
A Lasting Impact on the Anna Community
Fire Station Two stands as a vital addition to Anna’s emergency response infrastructure. Its modern design and advanced features ensure firefighters have the resources needed to serve the community effectively. The station’s successful completion reflects Crossland’s dedication to quality construction, problem-solving, and client satisfaction.
