Schomp Mazda
Stacked Style and Service at Schomp Mazda
Aurora, CO
The project encompassed three distinct construction phases: a complete renovation of the existing 13,200 SF body shop, a 6,560 SF expansion of that facility, and the construction of an impressive 35,100 SF showroom building. The new showroom integrates customer-facing spaces with a full-service department, creating a comprehensive automotive experience under one roof.
What sets this facility apart is its innovative “Jewel Box” feature – a sophisticated car stacker system positioned in the corner of the building and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling storefront glazing. This eye-catching display allows Schomp Mazda to showcase two vehicles in the same footprint while creating a dramatic visual centerpiece visible from both inside and outside the facility.
The building’s exterior combines aluminum composite material panels with stucco finishes, exposed concrete masonry units, and extensive storefront glazing that floods the interior with natural light. Inside, the design balances durability with aesthetics through tile flooring, exposed concrete surfaces, and strategic carpet placement. Specialized infrastructure supports automotive equipment including car lifts, a parts elevator, car wash and detail bays, plus comprehensive office spaces, a customer café, and employee amenities.
Beyond the building itself, the project included significant site improvements with a large parking lot and detention pond, ensuring the facility can accommodate both customer traffic and environmental requirements. An air curtain system – a first for Crossland – adds energy efficiency while maintaining comfortable interior conditions.
The construction process required careful coordination of multiple specialized trades and equipment installations. Crossland’s team successfully managed complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while maintaining the existing body shop operations during renovation phases. Custom soffits and specialized equipment mounting required precise planning and execution to achieve the final design vision.
Throughout the 48-month construction timeline, the project faced unique challenges including multiple changes in ownership representation and unforeseen complications with the existing building structure. Despite these obstacles, Crossland’s team-maintained project momentum through strong communication and adaptability, ultimately delivering a facility that exceeded expectations both functionally and aesthetically.
The completed Schomp Mazda facility represents more than just automotive retail space – it’s a destination that enhances the car-buying experience while providing comprehensive service capabilities. The thoughtful integration of display, service, and customer amenity areas creates an environment where automotive enthusiasm and business efficiency converge seamlessly.
