OSU Medicine Research
Building Tomorrow’s Breakthroughs
Tulsa, OK
In the heart of Tulsa, Crossland completed a sophisticated transformation of space that now serves as a cutting-edge hub for medical innovation. The Hardesty Center for Clinical Research and Neuroscience project involved converting existing space into a specialized medical research facility where groundbreaking work now takes place.
What began as a tenant infill project evolved into the creation of a state-of-the-art research center, complete with specialized laboratory spaces, a dedicated MRI suite for a 3-Tesla machine, and thoughtfully designed office environments. The renovation also included preparing shell space for future expansion, demonstrating foresight in the facility’s long-term research capabilities.
The project faced a significant timing challenge when the delivery date for the critical 3T MRI machine was scheduled to arrive before construction was fully underway. The Crossland team responded by strategically prioritizing the completion of the MRI suite, focusing intensively on this area of the first floor while coordinating the installation of specialized electrical systems needed to support the advanced imaging equipment.
When the delivery day arrived, the team’s flexibility was put to the test as Siemens technicians encountered difficulties moving the massive MRI machine into the building. Crossland’s onsite resources became crucial, with the team utilizing their skid steer to assist with the delicate installation process – an example of the problem-solving approach that defined the project.
While the $3.2 million project maintained a relatively modest exterior presence, with updates limited to new windows and fencing, the interior transformation was comprehensive. From clinical laboratory spaces to comfortable waiting areas, every aspect of the design supported the facility’s research mission.
The collaborative relationship between Crossland, the design team, and the client proved essential to the project’s success. By working through challenges “offline” before presenting solutions to the owner, the team maintained efficient progress throughout the process.
The Hardesty Center now stands as a testament to how thoughtful construction can advance medical research capabilities, creating spaces where tomorrow’s healthcare innovations will emerge.
