Little Elm Public Safety Annex
New Public Safety Facility Delivers More Than Expected for Less
Little Elm, TX
The Town of Little Elm faced a pressing need to accommodate its rapidly growing population with expanded emergency services infrastructure. Crossland partnered with the municipality to deliver a state-of-the-art public safety facility that would serve as the foundation for the community’s emergency response capabilities for years to come.
This 15,751 SF facility represents a significant investment in public safety, combining both police and fire services under one roof. The $14,000,000 project brought together specialized spaces including police interrogation rooms, holding cells, secure access points, fire station bays, firefighter dormitories, and a mezzanine training area. The facility operates 24/7, requiring careful coordination of building systems and security features throughout the construction process.
Located on Ryan Spiritas Parkway, the project site presented unique logistical challenges. The triangular, oblong-shaped lot required creative solutions for material staging and equipment placement. High traffic volumes on the adjacent parkway demanded careful coordination with local authorities to maintain public safety during construction activities. The construction team adapted daily operations to work within these constraints while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
The building’s exterior showcases a sophisticated blend of natural stone and phenolic wood-look panels, creating a modern aesthetic appropriate for a civic facility. Interior finishes include custom wood ceilings integrated with specialized sprinkler systems, requiring detailed coordination between trades. When supply chain delays threatened the insulation schedule, the team proactively sourced alternative materials through subcontractor networks, keeping the project on track.
Pre-construction services proved instrumental to the project’s success. The team provided comprehensive support from schematic design through design development phases, ultimately delivering guaranteed maximum price documentation that formed the foundation for construction. This collaborative approach with Brown Reynolds Watford Architects ensured design intent was maintained while optimizing constructability and budget performance.
Weather presented the primary schedule challenge, with 40 days of weather delays extending the original completion timeline. However, proactive schedule management and client communication resulted in accepted time extensions. The project achieved substantial completion in June 2025, delivering the facility ready for full operational capacity.
This project establishes a new benchmark for public safety facilities in the region, providing Little Elm with the infrastructure necessary to serve its growing community. The facility’s 24-hour operational capacity supports both police and fire departments with modern amenities and specialized spaces designed for emergency services personnel.
