Guthrie Green Finish Out
Restaurant Renovation and Beer Garden Addition at Tulsa’s Guthrie Green
Tulsa, OK
Small Space, Big Impact: En Fuego at Guthrie Green
Nestled within Tulsa’s Guthrie Green – a lively urban garden and event venue in the downtown Arts District – En Fuego brings a bold new flavor to the park with its Baja-inspired restaurant and bar. Crossland led the $1 million renovation of a former 500 SF coffeeshop into this vibrant food and drink destination, along with stage lighting upgrades to support community events.
Tight Footprint, Smart Design
Renovating such a small space presented unique challenges. Crossland transformed the interior with a new kitchen hood, HVAC system, epoxy flooring, and commercial-grade kitchen equipment. The front-of-house area was also reimagined, featuring a built-in bar with new equipment, electrical upgrades, and a custom overhead bar rack. Outside, a welcoming beer garden expanded seating capacity and enhanced the guest experience.
Creative Cost Solutions
Working closely with the owner throughout shifting design and budget priorities, the team implemented cost-saving alternatives without compromising aesthetics.
– Custom sheet metal panels were used in place of premium millwork to achieve the desired bar face finish.
– A prefabricated bar system helped optimize space while reducing costs.
– Smart cabinetry and concealed wall cavities were built to house soda systems and CO2 tanks efficiently.
Solving for Legacy Issues
The space came with significant inherited complications – existing MEP systems were improperly installed and out of code. Crossland corrected these issues and adapted the design mid-project when new architectural support was requested. Differing design opinions from multiple owners also required thoughtful coordination and added complexity to the budget and timeline.
Enhanced Public Amenities
In addition to the restaurant work, the project included much-needed upgrades to the park’s performance stage. Crossland replaced outdated 14-year-old stage lighting with modern fixtures, enhancing event capabilities for Guthrie Green and its many community gatherings.
