Building for Growth: Guthrie’s New Cotteral Elementary School Rises to the Challenge
Guthrie, OK
In Guthrie, Oklahoma, the new Cotteral Elementary School is laying a foundation that goes well beyond concrete and steel. Designed to unify Pre-K and Kindergarten students under one roof, this new 54,000 SF school will help Guthrie Public Schools serve a growing student population with better facilities, enhanced safety, and a focus on the future.
Built using the CMAR delivery method, the project required detailed planning and coordination from day one. Crossland’s team worked closely with the district to align budget and scope, a critical effort that ultimately saved costs and led to another awarded project with the district. The entire build is scheduled over a 21-month timeline with a contract value of $17.7 million.
Among the building’s most impressive features is its precast storm shelter gymnasium, designed not only for student activity but also as a FEMA-rated safe room. With roughly 50 massive precast wall panels and no on-site laydown space, Crossland’s team orchestrated just-in-time delivery and installation, completing the entire structure in just four days. That level of precision and planning is a testament to the team’s coordination and commitment.
Inside, details matter just as much. The gym is finished with a beautiful maple wood athletic floor, and a refurbished Cotteral Elementary School sign pays tribute to the district’s legacy, now reimagined for its next chapter.
During construction, Crossland partnered with Pitsco Education to host a special event for the students, giving them the unforgettable opportunity to operate a robotic crane and help “set” panels for their new school. As the project neared completion, our team went the extra mile, returning to help teachers move into their classrooms and get settled before the first bell.
More than just a construction job, this was a community effort grounded in care, collaboration, and purpose. At Cotteral Elementary, we weren’t just building a school, we were Building So Much More. Cotteral Elementary isn’t just a building, it’s a symbol of growth, community, and what’s possible when collaboration meets purpose.
