Greenwich Commons Phase 2
Creating Community Through Thoughtful Design
Wichita, KS
Creating spaces that bring people together requires more than just moving earth and pouring concrete. At Greenwich Commons Phase 2 in Wichita, we transformed 8.6 acres of raw land into a vibrant community gathering space designed to draw visitors and future businesses to the area surrounding a new TopGolf facility.
This site development project presented a unique challenge: how do you create an inviting outdoor space that serves as a community focal point? Our answer came through carefully selected architectural features that balance functionality with visual appeal.
The centerpiece of Greenwich Commons Phase 2 is a prefabricated bridge made from weathered steel. This isn’t your typical pedestrian crossing, the bridge features integrated lighting that creates a striking visual effect at night, transforming the space into something truly special.
We complemented the bridge with two large, prefabricated fountains that serve as natural gathering points throughout the development. The water features provide both visual interest and the soothing sounds that make outdoor spaces more inviting for visitors of all ages.
The attention to detail extended to every element of the project. We installed Escofet benches imported from Spain; their unique finish catches and reflects sunlight, creating subtle sparkles that add an unexpected touch of elegance to the everyday experience of sitting and enjoying the space.
Perimeter lighting consisted of decorative light fixtures placed strategically around the sidewalk system, ensuring the space remains welcoming and safe during evening hours while maintaining the aesthetic vision.
Managing this project required wearing multiple hats. Our team handled both project management and superintendence duties, which proved challenging but ultimately rewarding. The smaller scale of the work made subcontractor coordination particularly important – every trade needed to stay engaged and on schedule to keep the project moving forward.
Weather presented its own set of challenges, especially as temperatures dropped and we worked to keep subcontractors motivated and on-site. The key was maintaining consistent communication through regular meetings and ensuring everyone understood their critical role in the project’s success.
The installation of the weathered steel bridge stands out as the project’s most memorable moment. Placing a prefabricated structure of this size and complexity requires precise coordination between our team, the crane operator, and the installation crew. When everything came together perfectly – no delays, no complications, just smooth execution – it represented exactly the kind of seamless construction process our clients expect.
The completed development now serves its intended purpose as a gathering space that enhances the TopGolf experience while creating an attractive environment for future commercial development in the area.
