Frisco Public Works Facility: A 58,000SF Expansion Without Service Disruptions

Ensuring uninterrupted service is critical when working on a facility that provides water to more than 300,000 residents. That was the key challenge in the $15 million renovation and expansion of the Frisco Public Works Facility in Frisco, Texas. Covering nearly 58,000 square feet, this project modernized and expanded the city’s infrastructure while keeping essential services fully operational.

Project Overview
The expansion included the construction of a heated storage facility for equipment, the renovation of the existing warehouse to incorporate offices and shop spaces for the metering and signage departments, and the relocation of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) facility to a new section of the site. Additionally, the existing administration building was expanded and modernized.

Architectural Features:
• Exterior: A combination of metal panels, brick, and curtain wall, with a large curtain wall entry and multiple portal storefront walls.
• Interior: A striking wood accent wall in the main entry, incorporating historical design elements.

Challenges & Solutions
• Ensuring No Service Disruptions: A temporary SCADA line was set up to keep the existing control room operational during construction, with a seamless switchover requiring only 30 minutes of downtime.
• Structural Adjustments: During construction, a 7.5-inch alignment difference was discovered between the existing structure and the expansion. Crossland proactively addressed the issue by making precise roofline and grade beam adjustments, ensuring seamless integration without impacting the project timeline.
• Material Delays & Owner Changes: Lead times were impacted by the pandemic, and numerous owner-driven changes required strategic phasing to keep the project on schedule.

A Seamless Upgrade for Frisco
This project was successfully completed on time and without disrupting normal operations. The upgraded Frisco Public Works Facility now provides the city with a modern, efficient, and expanded infrastructure hub that will serve the community for years to come.
