AGP East Bank Phase II
Crossland Delivers Complex Riverside Infrastructure Project
Tulsa, OK
The AGP East Bank Phase II project transformed a challenging riverside location into a seamless connection point that bridges Tulsa’s premier attractions. This $12.6 million infrastructure undertaking required Crossland Construction to work directly in the Arkansas River, creating the eastern foundation and landing area for the Williams Crossing pedestrian bridge while expanding The Gathering Place’s accessible surface area.
Working in one of Tulsa’s most complex construction environments, our team navigated the unique challenges of building within the Arkansas River itself. The project’s centerpiece – an architecturally striking stone abutment wall – required precision engineering and innovative logistics. Due to the substantial weight of the stone materials and decorative light poles, helicopter placement became necessary for portions of the installation, showcasing the project’s technical complexity.
The construction scope extended beyond the abutment wall to include exposed aggregate sidewalks and landscaping that harmoniously blends with The Gathering Place’s existing aesthetic. This careful attention to design continuity ensures visitors experience a seamless transition as they move through the expanded park space and access the newly constructed zinc dam flume area.
Perhaps the most demanding aspect involved coordinating simultaneous construction activities across three to four interconnected projects sharing the same geographical footprint. Our project management team orchestrated complex scheduling between The Gathering Place operations, bridge construction, and zinc dam installation while maintaining public access and safety protocols. The logistics puzzle extended to material staging and transportation, requiring the construction of an extensive access road system to reach the riverside work zones.
The project’s location presented both obstacles and opportunities. Building within the river demanded specialized construction techniques and equipment, while the high-visibility location required exceptional attention to aesthetic details. The result is a permanent infrastructure improvement that serves as a visual focal point, connecting three major Tulsa attractions into a cohesive recreational experience.
Completed on schedule and within budget parameters, the AGP East Bank Phase II project demonstrates Crossland’s capability to execute complex civil infrastructure work in challenging environments. The expanded park surface area and improved accessibility features will serve Tulsa residents and visitors for generations, creating lasting community value through thoughtful construction and design integration.
