VSE Aviation
Seamless Growth in Motion
Independence, KS
VSE Aviation needed room to grow but couldn’t afford to pause their operations. Crossland took on the challenge of expanding their Independence facility while keeping business running as usual.
The project transformed the 36,000 SF site sitting on two acres, touching nearly every side of the building. The south side saw the largest addition, boosting production capacity, while smaller expansions upgraded the office area and call center. One support building was relocated, another was constructed, and the site’s roadway underwent a complete renovation.
Throughout construction, VSE Aviation remained fully operational. Careful coordination allowed the company to shift within the existing facility while new work rose around them – ensuring continuity even as the building changed dramatically.
The new expansion combines function and modern design. Pre-engineered metal building construction provides strength, with striking metal panels at the north entrance. Inside, the production area features an open-to-structure design with metal wainscotting, while the offices and call center showcase glass wall systems that create light-filled, collaborative spaces.
Completed in 19 months, the $10.86 million project finished on time and on budget, even with client-driven changes along the way. Crossland self-performed concrete, steel, and metal building work to maintain quality at every step.
The strong partnership forged with VSE Aviation and Echelon A+D is already paving the way for future growth, with plans for a new 70,000 SF facility on the horizon.
