Enhancing the vo-ag experience for Pryor students
Pryor, OK
Love of agriculture runs deep in Pryor, Oklahoma. The Vo-Ag program at Pryor High School allows students to learn as much as possible about the vocation that’s been a big part of their lives and their community. But the Ag building wasn’t located on the school campus, so the City of Pryor chose Crossland to construct four new buildings and consolidate Vo-Ag functions into one area. The impressive new facility is now the only one of its kind in Oklahoma. The four structures, totaling 71,000 SF, include show and cattle barns, a maintenance building, and a bus barn within a new covered parking lot, plus a separate parking area for the bus fleet. To have the best facilities possible for their budget, the school chose to use pre-engineered metal structures for the exteriors and invest heavily in the new buildings’ interior features. For example, the show barn has an interior arena lined with decorative metal, plus a wash station, holding pens, and tac rooms. The maintenance shop has a car lift just like you would find at a car dealership, as well as a bus lift.
Managing the problematic Oklahoma soil was a top priority for our team throughout the Vo-Ag project. We worked through weekends on civil earthwork and site preparation. We brought in subs to assist with the 4,000 cubic yards of concrete site paving. In addition to the steel erection and concrete work, we also self-performed the rough and finish carpentry. Despite 80 weather days, our team delivered the project on time and under budget. Pryor High School students can now experience the Vo-Ag trade more fully, continuing a tradition that has run deep in Oklahoma.
