Har-Ber Avenue Extension Phase 2 – 48th Street to 40th Street – 24A01BR
Springdale, AR
Har-Ber Avenue Extension Phase 2 addressed one of Springdale’s biggest traffic challenges by creating a safer, more reliable route over I-49. Rather than just widening a road, the project delivered a multi-modal corridor benefiting drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The centerpiece is a 212-foot bridge over I-49 with no intermediate supports—a Northwest Arkansas first. Construction often occurred at night within tight windows to keep traffic moving. Crossland Heavy Contractors self-performed 60% of the work, including bridge construction, storm drainage, waterline installation, site concrete, and paving, maintaining a tight schedule and high quality.
Beyond the bridge, the project also added a half-mile of roadway, a four-way signalized intersection, and extensive sidewalks and trails. Crews installed over 1,300 feet of storm drain, 370 feet of water line, and 25 storm drain structures. The team worked closely with the City, ARDOT, and local police to keep traffic flowing and trail access open.
Safety was a priority, with false decking and strict site controls leading to zero lost-time accidents. Early field reviews reduced unnecessary scope, freeing funds for aesthetic upgrades and bridge rehab.
Delivered on time and within the $17.8 million budget, the project was completed in just 16 months. This hands-on, high-accountability approach leaves Springdale with a safer, more connected corridor for years to come.
