New Addiction Treatment Center Enhances Mental Health Services in Pittsburg, KS

Access to critical mental health care in Pittsburg, Kansas, expanded with the construction of a new 19,000 SF addiction treatment center at the Crawford County Mental Health Center (CCMHC). Valued at $8.4 million, this facility strengthens CCMHC’s mission to provide Same Day Access services by offering an upgraded, private, and welcoming environment for those seeking substance use disorder treatment.

Connected directly to the existing annex at the Richard H. Pfeiffer Recovery Complex, the new center strengthens care coordination and operational efficiency. The design prioritizes patient safety and comfort, featuring anti-ligature hardware and materials throughout to comply with mental health regulations—minimizing the risk of self-harm and creating a secure healing space.

Exterior finishes include a durable combination of brick and stone, along with a standing seam metal roof provided by the Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) supplier. Inside, the facility features a blend of carpet and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring, with epoxy finishes in the kitchen and restrooms. Ceilings incorporate both acoustical and gypsum board systems to balance sound control and aesthetics.

A major challenge arose early in construction when remnants of a former hospital—including underground tunnels and a full basement—were discovered. Crossland collaborated closely with the owner, design team, and geotechnical experts to safely remove the structures, ensuring the project stayed on schedule from the outset.
