Next Generation of Commerce Bank Takes Shape

Springfield, MO

Commerce Bank’s vision for the future of banking took shape in Springfield, Missouri, where we transformed a compact 2,576 SF space into a cutting-edge financial hub that redefines the traditional bank experience.

This $3 million project represented more than just another construction job – it served as Commerce Bank’s prototype for their next generation of branches. The modern design reflects the banking industry’s evolution toward digital services and remote transactions, requiring fewer traditional teller stations while maximizing customer interaction spaces.

Our team navigated the unique challenges that come with pioneering a new concept. The owner’s commitment to perfecting their prototype meant multiple design refinements throughout the construction process, each one bringing the vision closer to their ideal branch model.

The exterior combines traditional and red brick with stone accents, crowned by striking black canopies that wrap around the building’s perimeter. These architectural elements create visual interest while maintaining the professional appearance customers expect from a financial institution.

Inside, the design maximizes natural light through a large front entrance window that floods the space with brightness. Four private offices balance the open floor plan, while specialized features like vertical solid surface applications and strip paneling create sophisticated wall treatments. High-end glass office doors feature decorative film that maintains privacy while preserving the open, welcoming atmosphere.

One of the project’s most innovative features involves LED panels from Forms and Surfaces, integrated with specialized film to display the Commerce Bank logo when activated. This technology represents a first for our team and demonstrates the forward-thinking approach both we and the owner brought to this prototype.

The construction timeline of approximately three months required careful coordination and problem-solving, particularly around the complex security systems, access controls, and ADA compliance features essential to modern banking operations. When conflicting documentation created uncertainty about wiring requirements for the double storefront entry system, our team worked closely with all parties to resolve the issues without compromising the schedule or design integrity.

High-efficiency HVAC systems reflect Commerce Bank’s commitment to operational cost management, reducing long-term energy expenses while maintaining optimal comfort for staff and customers.

This project showcases our ability to adapt and collaborate on innovative concepts while maintaining the precision and quality our clients expect. The successful delivery of Commerce Bank’s prototype positions them for efficient replication of this model across future locations.
