Creating a Healthcare Cornerstone for Native Communities

Salina, OK

Crossland Construction proudly delivered the 112,000 SF Cherokee Nation Salina Clinic, a comprehensive healthcare facility designed to provide essential medical services to Native Americans in Salina, Oklahoma. This $65.7 million LEED Silver healthcare center represents more than just a construction project – it’s a vital community resource that will serve patients, families, and medical staff for generations to come.

As Construction Manager at Risk, our team collaborated closely with Cherokee Nation and Childers Architect from pre-construction through completion. The 27-acre campus houses an impressive array of healthcare services, including physical therapy, imaging, laboratory services, pediatrics, primary and specialty care, behavioral health, public health, pharmacy with both drive-thru and walk-in options, a 12-room dental suite, optometry, and a demonstration kitchen – all complemented by an attached wellness center.

The facility’s distinctive architectural elements include multiple radius designs throughout the flooring, ceiling systems, and lighting, symbolizing water – a concept thoughtfully integrated by the design team. Exterior finishes showcase a diverse palette of materials including stone, brick, EIFS with Cherokee Nation “Swirl,” metal panels, composite wood panels, and extensive storefront and curtainwall systems.

During pre-construction, Crossland’s expertise proved invaluable as we redesigned the storm sewer system, eliminating an expensive underground detention system while maintaining functionality. Our team also coordinated the relocation of a high-pressure gas line, working with ONG to expedite this critical infrastructure work and keep the project on schedule.

Throughout construction, we utilized Cherokee Nation TERO workforce and applied sustainable building practices to achieve LEED Silver certification. When challenges arose with structural steel installation, our self-perform capabilities allowed us to supplement the subcontractor’s workforce and maintain the project timeline.
The Cherokee Nation Salina Clinic stands as a testament to Crossland’s commitment to building facilities that directly impact community wellbeing, completed on time and within budget after 27 months of construction.
