Buffalo Regional Training Facility
Fire Training Facility Built for the Long Term
Buffalo, MO
When the City of Buffalo needed a new training facility for their fire department, they envisioned more than just a basic structure. They wanted a professional, functional space that would serve their firefighters for decades while fitting seamlessly into their community’s landscape.
Crossland delivered an 8,375 SF pre-engineered metal building that combines practical firefighting training spaces with educational facilities. The facility features three fire truck bays alongside a comprehensive business office and educational wing, complete with a main training room equipped with an operable partition for flexible use configurations.
The exterior design strikes a balance between industrial functionality and professional aesthetics. We incorporated a three-foot horizontal panel skirt around the building’s perimeter, creating visual depth and architectural interest. The color palette – dark red paired with gunmetal gray – honors the firefighting tradition while maintaining a sophisticated, professional appearance that stands apart from typical municipal buildings.
Our team faced significant ground conditions that tested our problem-solving capabilities. Third-party soil inspections revealed unstable conditions requiring extensive remediation across the entire site. Rather than accepting the initial recommendation for complete soil removal at a $250,000 cost, we brought in additional engineering expertise and developed a geogrid solution that achieved the same structural integrity at roughly half the cost.
The interior spaces balance functionality with unexpected refinements. When floor box installations caused minor concrete cracking in the main training room, we went beyond our original scope to install an epoxy floor system. This upgrade transformed the space from purely utilitarian to a polished training environment that enhances the facility’s professional atmosphere.
The facility positions Buffalo’s fire department for future growth, with the property designed to accommodate additional training courses and firefighting activity areas as their program expands.
