Brookshire Fresh Grocery – Longview, TX
Where Grocery Meets Experience
Longview, TX
When Brookshire Grocery Company envisioned transforming the traditional shopping experience, they partnered with us to bring their bold concept to life. The result? A 66,368 SF destination that redefines what a grocery store can be.
This wasn’t just another retail build. Brookshire Fresh combines a full-service grocery store with amenities you’d expect to find scattered across town – a food court, bar, stage for live entertainment, and even a children’s playground. Our team delivered this unique retail experience through design-bid-build delivery, working alongside Galloway & Company to create something the community had never seen before.
The project presented immediate challenges that tested our problem-solving abilities. Facing a delay in building permits, we had to maintain momentum while navigating complex environmental requirements. The site required creek diversion and phased clearing of wooded areas to meet permit requirements, demanding careful sequencing and coordination.
Our construction approach centered on tilt-wall methodology with CMU elements, complemented by extensive storefront glazing and distinctive wood exterior feature walls. The interior showcased an unprecedented level of decorative finishes – from ceramic and quarry tiles to epoxy polished concrete and intricate waffle ceiling details. Every surface was designed to create an engaging shopping environment that goes far beyond typical grocery store standards.
The project’s environmental constraints became opportunities for creative solutions. We coordinated the creek diversion with phased site work, maintaining construction progress while meeting all regulatory requirements. Fire lane access for tilt-wall installation required strategic planning, but our team adapted the sequence to keep the project moving forward.
As deadlines compressed toward the end, our collaborative approach proved essential. We worked closely with all trades to manage an expedited final schedule, ensuring quality remained high despite time pressures.
The grand opening validated every challenge we overcame. Community response exceeded expectations, with residents embracing this new concept that combines grocery shopping with dining and entertainment. The vibrant meat and produce sections, coupled with unique amenities like the performance stage, created exactly the destination Brookshire envisioned.
From groundbreaking to ribbon cutting, this 11-month journey demonstrated how effective collaboration can transform ambitious concepts into community landmarks. The project shows what’s possible when clients, designers, and builders work together to push beyond conventional retail boundaries.
