Celebrating Taylor Burns: Achieving CHST Certification and Advancing Crossland’s Safety Excellence

January 9, 2025 | 2 minute read

Safety isn’t just a priority; it’s a commitment at Crossland. As we continue our “Drive to Zero” initiative—a goal to achieve zero accidents on all our jobsites—we are proud to recognize employees who embody the mission and help drive our safety commitment.

We are proud to celebrate, Taylor Burns, Safety Coordinator at Crossland, for earning the prestigious Construction Health and Safety Technician® (CHST®) certification, a testament to his expertise, dedication, and leadership in safety.

What is the CHST Certification?

The Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification, issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), signifies a professional’s competency in safety, health, and environment (SH&E) activities on construction sites. CHST-certified individuals are essential to creating safer environments by preventing illnesses and injuries, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. This certification requires:

  • Significant construction safety experience: A minimum of three years in SH&E roles.
  • Technical proficiency: Duties that demand advanced safety knowledge and skills.
  • Examination success: Passing a rigorous exam to demonstrate expertise.
  • Ongoing commitment: Annual renewals and recertification to stay current with safety advancements.

The CHST program recognizes safety leaders who manage SH&E functions across projects and job sites, guiding workers toward a safer construction culture.

Taylor’s Achievement: Driving Safety

Taylor’s accomplishment as a CHST-certified professional represents a significant milestone—not only for their career but also for Crossland’s broader safety objectives. By earning this certification, Taylor enhances his ability to lead safety initiatives across job sites, ensuring that every worker has the knowledge and support to stay safe.

In 2024, Crossland achieved some remarkable safety milestones:

  • 2.5 million man-hours worked without compromising our safety standards.
  • A 1.2 million accident-free hours streak over 158 days, demonstrating our dedication to cultivating a culture of safety.

Taylor’s certification reinforces our team’s expertise and our collective effort to continue reaching new safety milestones.

A Commitment to Safety

Taylor’s certification highlights Crossland’s investment in professional growth and safety excellence. As we move closer to our Drive to Zero goal, we remain committed to empowering our team with the resources, education, and support needed to excel in their roles.

Together, we’re building so much more than projects—we’re leaving a legacy.
