Springfield, MO

If you build it, they will come. Right?

Well, in Springfield, Missouri … they were already coming. So, you better build it.

With the ever-growing popularity of youth sports in the Springfield area, the city needed much more space for soccer matches, basketball games, and more.

And in the fall of 2022, they got that and then some.

Betty & Bobby Allison Sports Town is a cooperative effort of the public/private partnership between the City of Springfield and private developers and owners.

It features 12 outdoor professionally maintained sports fields, including four turf fields that allow for all-weather play.

Its 94,000 SF indoor facility is home to four basketball courts that can be converted to 8 volleyball courts, along with two indoor soccer fields. There are also indoor and outdoor concessions and office and meeting spaces available.

Crossland began construction on the $20.6 million complex in May 2021, and it was completed in November 2022.

Exterior finishes on the buildings are metal panels and Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS). Interior finishes include athletic flooring, synthetic turf, arena soccer boards, and basketball/volleyball goals.

Unique challenges during this project were the weather and long lead times on Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB). Also, a large amount of rock was discovered during site grading, leading to redesigns and relocations of some exterior soccer fields.

The project was taking place at a time of unprecedented steel costs, but Crossland worked directly with the design team to ease those costs when possible.

During pre-construction, we changed the exterior of the building from an Insulated Metal Panel to a more Standard PBR Panel with a liner insulation system. This process helped ease the overall steel cost.

Despite weather conditions and extended lead times, Crossland delivered a complex that will help Springfield become America’s amateur sports destination.
