Sonoco Office Production Facility
Stepping up for Sonoco
Tulsa, OK
In the world of construction, daily challenges are par for the course. Recognizing the unique needs of each project, Crossland consistently strives to deliver the highest quality results for its clients.
So, when the joint sealant company on the project was slow and inconsistent, Crossland’s crew stepped up and worked extra hours to ensure the building remained watertight to the elements.
Why? We understood that any compromise in construction could jeopardize Sonoco, a global distributor of crucial cardboard tubes, boxing, and packaging products, especially during inclement weather.
Sonoco’s 107,500 SF facility, a tilt-wall construction warehouse building, features a painted exterior, small canopies over entrance doors, concrete walls throughout the warehouse, and approximately 5,000 SF of office space with polished concrete flooring, painted walls, and grid/tile ceilings.
Work took place during the pandemic, so material shortages and delays caused particular challenges on the project. Despite these hurdles, Crossland’s hard work and persistence prevailed. A roofing materials shortage, for instance, prompted proactive measures, with the roofing team traveling to surrounding states to secure necessary materials.
In navigating the challenges, Crossland identified cost-saving opportunities during the pre-con phase, opting for a more economical roofing system and utilizing aluminum electrical wire instead of copper, resulting in a savings of about $80,000.
As a Crossland Realty project, ownership of the warehouse rests with Crossland and is leased to Sonoco through a long-term agreement.
During the project, Crossland forged a great connection with Sonoco’s management team. Establishing these personal connections are often as gratifying as constructing the facility itself.
