Saint Francis Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital Project
Transforming Mental Health Care: St. Francis Laureate Psychiatric Clinic & Hospital Renovations
Tulsa, OK
Crossland partnered with Saint Francis Health System to deliver a comprehensive, campus-wide transformation for the Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spanning more than 133,000 square feet of new construction and renovations, this multi-phase project enhances the region’s mental health services by modernizing existing facilities and creating new ones—each designed to support patient safety, staff functionality, and long-term growth.
Scope That Serves a Mission
This 36-month CMAR project involved extensive upgrades across the Laureate campus:
McDonald Hall: Full interior build-out to add 60 new adult inpatient private beds.
Wells Hall: Renovation and expansion of kitchen and dining areas to support Laureate’s nationally recognized eating disorder program.
Admin Building: Complete renovation including secure check-in, a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), Clinical Assessment Department (CAD), executive offices, and a secure ambulance/police transfer area.
Logistics Facility: New ground-up building for EVS and maintenance storage.
New Support Building: Dedicated facility for linens and medical supplies.
Parking Garage: A new structure providing 132 parking spaces for patients, staff, and visitors.
Roof Replacements: Upgrades across multiple buildings, including the Education Center, Clinic, Central Plant, Pavilion, and Moore, Wells, Overall, and McDonald Halls.
Central Utility Plant (CUP): Major equipment replacement to support upgraded infrastructure.
Crossland also self-performed key scopes including concrete, steel, and site utilities.
Safety, Detail, and Complexity
Every room across the campus was constructed with patient safety in mind—featuring anti-ligature materials, pick-resistant caulking, patient-safe windows with four-lock systems, and impact-resistant fixtures. Custom millwork, Altro wall protection, granite and solid surface countertops, and secure furnishings reflect the detailed attention placed on both durability and therapeutic environments.
Tackling Challenges Head-On
Crossland faced and overcame several complex challenges. A backfill error behind an 18-foot wall was corrected through close collaboration with the design team. Flaws in the drain body design were addressed with a long-term fix slated for future renovations. The team remained agile during leadership changes within the Saint Francis organization, facilitating unified decision-making through clear, consistent communication.
Going Beyond the Build
Crossland’s commitment went far beyond schedule and budget. Our team worked nights and weekends to meet patient safety standards, even hiring dedicated safety personnel to monitor active construction areas. Through transparency, adaptability, and problem-solving, Crossland delivered spaces that will help Saint Francis continue its mission of prioritizing mental health in the community.
