New Municipal Courts Facility Enhances Access, Security, and Efficiency
Norman, OK
The City of Norman, Oklahoma, has officially opened its new 15,000 SF municipal courts building – a $3.5 million investment designed to support a fair, secure, and efficient judicial process. Completed in February 2024, the facility replaces the previous courtroom space housed within the city’s police department.
The new building features a modern courtroom with spacious public seating, advanced security systems, and improved accessibility throughout. Additional spaces include a welcoming lobby, updated staff offices, and a dedicated jury pool room.
Preconstruction efforts included a thorough review of the existing mechanical system, asbestos testing, and limited demolition before design was finalized. Exterior elements include an entry vestibule, large windows, and contemporary storefront canopies.
Interior finishes range from detailed millwork wood paneling and bulletproof glass to new tile and carpeting throughout public and private areas.
The former courtroom space in the police department will now be repurposed by the Norman Police Department to support their growing needs.
City officials praised the facility, calling it “a symbol of our commitment to provide a fair and efficient judicial process for all members of our community.”
