Mansfield ISD Lake Ridge Baseball/Softball Renovations
From Run Down to State of the Art
Mansfield, TX
When Mansfield ISD approached us to renovate the aging athletic facilities at Lake Ridge High School, we knew this project would require more than just standard field improvements. The district had ambitious plans to transform their baseball and softball complex into a state-of-the-art facility that would serve their student-athletes for years to come.
The renovation encompassed both baseball and softball fields, featuring new synthetic turf installation, modern batting cages, and strategically positioned bullpens. We also refreshed the dugouts with professional-grade paint systems and upgraded various support buildings throughout the 5,000 SF complex.
What made this project particularly challenging was the soil conditions we encountered. Initial geotechnical reports suggested standard preparation methods would suffice, but additional testing revealed the need for chemical injection – a specialized ground treatment process that injects stabilizing chemicals deep into the earth to create proper building conditions. While this method typically extends timelines from three weeks to approximately two months, we worked closely with the district to coordinate around their athletic schedule, so no critical deadlines were missed.
Our approach allowed us to navigate these unexpected complexities while keeping the project moving forward. The preconstruction phase, which began in March, proved invaluable as we developed detailed budgets and coordinated with multiple stakeholders early in the process.
Weather presented another significant challenge, as 80% of the work occurred outdoors. Our team had to constantly adapt to changing conditions while maintaining quality standards and schedule commitments. The scattered nature of athletic facilities – unlike traditional building construction where everything occurs within defined walls – required heightened coordination to track materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities across multiple field locations.
Despite these hurdles, we completed the transformation in just five months. The result was striking: what had been run-down fields with natural grass became a modern athletic complex that met the district’s vision for their student-athletes.
The renovation work was completed under a construction manager at risk delivery method, with our team self-performing miscellaneous items like equipment installation and minor finishing work. This hands-on approach allowed us to maintain quality control while coordinating effectively with specialized athletic field contractors.
