Labette Community College (LCC) in Parsons, KS, provides athletes with the facilities they need to train, compete, and improve their game. With a $5.8 million expansion and renovation, LCC has redefined its athletic facilities.

A Game-Changing Facility Upgrade

This transformative project added over 21,000 square feet of new space, including:
• New basketball and volleyball courts
• Batting cages and a weight room
• Additional seating for spectators

The existing gymnasium was renovated, including the addition of air conditioning. Previously, athletes had to practice and compete in temperatures over 100 degrees. Now, the gym stays at a steady 75 degrees, creating a more comfortable space for players and spectators.

Design & Construction Highlights
The gym’s exterior features pre-engineered metal panels, providing a durable and cost-effective solution. Inside, materials enhance both function and aesthetics, including:

• Epoxy flooring in locker rooms for durability and easy maintenance
• Ceramic tile finishes for a polished look
• Three-form panels in the lobby for a modern finish
• A striking cedar entryway, crafted from prime cedar sourced from Washington state

Overcoming Challenges with Smart Solutions
Like many campus expansions, this project came with challenges. Budget constraints required creative problem-solving, and Crossland collaborated closely with LCC to implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality. Additionally, since the new facility was constructed on an existing parking lot, managing parking logistics during construction was crucial to minimizing disruptions.

Strengthening Long-Standing Partnerships
This isn’t Crossland’s first project with LCC. Years ago, our team collaborated on the Health Sciences Building, and returning to work with familiar faces made this expansion even more rewarding. These lasting relationships are what make projects like this truly special.

With this state-of-the-art gym expansion, LCC’s student-athletes now have the training space they need to elevate their performance—and their future.
