Jay Public Schools Complete Major Bond Projects: New Stadium, Field House, Science Wing, and Cafeteria Upgrades
Jay, OK
A New Era for Jay Public Schools
After passing a substantial athletics bond for the first time in 20 years, Jay Public School District in Oklahoma received a series of much-needed upgrades that have transformed the district’s facilities and student experience.
Comprehensive District Upgrades
This $13.4 million project touched many aspects of the district, with the main highlight being the construction of a new football stadium to replace the old, run-down, and unsafe facility. The new stadium features artificial turf and a rubber synthetic nine-lane track that meets all requirements to host any type of meet. Spectators now enjoy improved stands that are safer and more comfortable, and a new LED lighting system makes watching games brighter and easier for everyone in attendance.
Athletic Facilities: Stadium and Field House
In addition to the stadium, the district added a new field house featuring a wrestling room and locker rooms. Crossland constructed the facility shell, while the school district outfitted the interior with mats, pads, and lockers.
Academic Enhancements: Elementary School Upgrades and Science Wing
At the elementary school, a new cafeteria and kitchen were constructed, with Crossland supplying and installing all new commercial kitchen equipment—except for a few pieces brought over from the previous space.
The new cafeteria, which also serves as a storm shelter, represents a major upgrade with $350,000 worth of new equipment, ensuring the space is safe, up to code, and ready to serve students for years to come.
The project also included a new science education area, where Crossland provided science casework labs, fume hoods, and gas spigots to support hands-on learning.
Design Solutions and Site Improvements
Design solutions were a key part of the project’s success. Crossland worked closely with the district to improve several design components at the stadium, including building retaining walls around the field to prevent items from the stands or under the stands from washing onto the track and field. The civil team also performed expert grading to ensure proper drainage away from the building.
Collaboration and Communication
Throughout the project, Crossland emphasized communication and transparency, keeping the district informed and involved at every stage. The team’s dedication ensured that the district maximized the value of their bond funds and received facilities that will benefit students, staff, and families for generations.
A Lasting Community Impact
It was incredibly rewarding for Crossland to help the district make these long-awaited improvements. The successful completion of these projects marks a new era for Jay Public Schools, enhancing both educational and athletic opportunities for the entire community.
