Central Park Sports Complex
Independence Hits a Home Run with New Sports Complex!
Independence, KS
Community growth and pride are at the heart of Independence, Kansas, and their brand-new recreation facility is a shining example of that spirit!
The Central Sports Complex is a vast collection of ball fields, walking trails, and fitness courts. The $5.7 million project also includes shiny new storage facilities, restrooms, and parking lots.
The City of Independence proudly states that the new complex will “serve as a driver for additional economic development, community growth, and pride.”
A GRAND SLAM OF FEATURES
This phase of the project boasts four baseball/softball fields for all age groups, including one with a stunning turf infield. Imagine the kids’ excitement as they step onto the pristine, green turf for the first time!
Located near the picturesque Verdigris River, the complex presented some unique challenges. These fields were designed to be above a certain flood level, making the most of the flood zone ground.
RAIN, RIVER, AND RESILIENCE
Rain was a major curveball during the dirt work phase. The park actually flooded while we were building it! But our dedicated crews sprang into action on a Sunday to move all the equipment and material to high ground before the river swelled. And here’s the kicker—Crossland didn’t charge the city a dime for the cleanup costs.
We also hit it out of the park by donating a flagpole and some funds to support the future fields planned for Phase 2 of the complex construction.
COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Watching area children run the bases and ride their bikes throughout the new park makes all the extra work worth it. It’s truly heartwarming to see the community enjoy its new sports complex.
