City Hall Expansion Redefines Municipal Design

When the City of Republic needed to separate their municipal operations and give City Hall its own dedicated space, they turned to a design-build approach that would streamline the process and deliver results. What emerged was a striking 16,221 SF addition that transformed how the city serves its community while showcasing dynamic architectural elements and high-end finishes.

The project began with a clear mission: expand the existing city building to create a standalone City Hall facility. Previously, both City Hall and the building department operated under the same roof, creating space constraints and operational challenges. Our team developed a solution that addressed these needs while incorporating the city’s branding and aesthetic preferences.

The architectural design drew inspiration from pre-engineered metal building concepts while elevating the aesthetic with premium materials and thoughtful details. A raised clearstory area creates visual interest and floods the interior with natural light, while a large divisible conference room provides flexible meeting space for city operations.

Exterior finishes showcase remarkable variety, featuring five to six different metal panel types alongside stone veneer and cast stone elements. The design creates visual movement through varied profiles and colors, including a distinctive bright orange canopy that reflects the city’s brand identity. The front entrance makes a bold statement with expansive glazing and clearstory elements that welcome visitors.

Inside, the building maintains the elevated design approach with stone veneer installations and custom wood paneling featuring membrane boards with wood strips. Strategic carpet selection demonstrated how thoughtful color coordination and pattern placement can achieve premium results within budget constraints. Each office received individual thermostat control – a direct response to employee feedback about temperature control issues in the existing building.

The project faced significant challenges when the structural steel supplier declared bankruptcy mid-construction. Our team navigated this critical supply chain disruption without project delays, demonstrating the problem-solving capabilities that design-build delivery enables. Additionally, when metal panels arrived on-site that didn’t match specifications, we coordinated complete replacement internally, maintaining project momentum and client relationships.
