New Joint Operations Facility Serves Growing Community

Crossland Construction completed the new Garden City Fire & Finney County EMS joint operations facility, strategically positioned to support the growing northern region of Garden City, Kansas. This 29,495 SF facility represents a significant investment in community safety infrastructure and culminates a project nearly 20 years in development.

Our team served as Construction Manager at Risk, bringing extensive value engineering expertise that saved the city nearly $2 million without sacrificing square footage or essential functionality. The $13.7 million facility features dedicated spaces for both fire and EMS operations, with distinctive living quarters and apparatus bays for each department.

The building’s exterior showcases an impressive blend of EIFS, metal wall panels, natural stones, and quarry tiles, requiring meticulous attention to waterproofing details at material transitions. Inside, the facility is thoughtfully divided between fire and EMS operations, with each side featuring bunk rooms, restrooms, living areas with kitchens, training rooms, laundry, and administrative spaces.

Architectural highlights include a museum/display bay with striking curtain wall glass, creating an engaging public space at the building’s entrance. At the facility’s core, specialized turnout gear storage and wash-down rooms allow first responders to decontaminate after calls, with a dedicated fitness mezzanine positioned above.

Through open communication and collaboration with Garden City officials, Crossland delivered additional value by incorporating a separate rescue bay that initially seemed beyond budget constraints. The project was completed on time and under budget, reinforcing Crossland’s commitment to delivering exceptional facilities for the first responders who keep communities safe.
