Grocery Store Brings Modern Amenities and Local Charm

Riverside, MO

For nearly 80 years, Red X has been a cornerstone of Riverside, Missouri – a family-owned grocery store known for its resilience and deep community roots. From surviving floods and fires to proudly displaying a 1940s fire truck and a replica Liberty Bell, the store has always stood out for its personality and connection to the town it serves. In 2022, the owners made the decision to build a new facility just southwest of the original site, marking a new chapter for the business and the community.

The $8 million, 60,000 SF store combines modern construction with the nostalgic charm Red X is known for. Exterior materials include CMU block, EIFS, stone, and a standing seam metal roof. Inside, decorative wall panels and art-deco finishes complement the store’s unique collection of vintage pieces.

Bringing these elements to life required special coordination. Our team installed customized power and lighting to properly showcase the historic fire truck and Liberty Bell replica – ensuring they remain key focal points within the space.

The project came with its share of challenges. The site, a former dump, required over-excavation and a complete rebuild of the pad to support the new structure. Midway through the schedule, a delay in TPO roofing materials threatened to slow progress. To keep things moving, we pivoted to a Durolast system sourced directly from the manufacturer, minimizing disruption and staying on track.

With Red X playing such a vital role in Riverside, opening on time was non-negotiable. Thanks to a strong partnership with the owner – who remained hands-on and community-focused throughout – the new store opened as planned, ready to serve both loyal customers and future generations.
