Fleet Maintenance Facility Renovation Enhances City Operations
The City of McKinney now has a state-of-the-art facility to maintain its municipal fleet, thanks to a $9 million renovation of the city’s Fleet Maintenance Facility. This comprehensive 71,000 SF renovation transformed an old agricultural sales barn into a modern administrative office and workshop complex, providing the city with essential operational space.
In addition to the renovation of the building, a new fuel station and additional storage building were constructed. The exterior received significant upgrades, including new windows, brick finishes, and a refreshed front facade. Inside, the facility features traditional office spaces and conference rooms to accommodate the city staff.
A notable challenge during this project was the installation of the underground fuel station. Conversations between the City’s IT department and design team on the requirements for the fuel station’s monitoring system created added time constraints as they determined the best long-term solution. This required thorough coordination with all trades and multiple meetings with the city to finalize the system’s design and ensure the fuel station was correctly installed.
The renovation of the Fleet Maintenance Facility not only met the city’s needs but also provided a fantastic upgrade to McKinney’s operations. With all challenges overcome and lessons learned along the way, the project wrapped up successfully – on time, on budget, and with a space that the city’s staff can proudly call home. It’s a great feeling to see how this new facility will help keep McKinney’s fleet running smoothly for years to come!
