USD 506 Aux Gym
Adding Opportunity in Altamont
Altamont, KS
Crossland recently completed a 20,000 SF auxiliary gymnasium for Labette County High School in Altamont, Kansas. The new facility, featuring a blend of metal panel and brick exterior with distinctive arched canopies, provides much-needed additional athletic space for the school district. Inside, the gym showcases metal liner panel and painted CMU finishes, creating a durable and functional space for student activities.
During the 14-month construction period, the team demonstrated their problem-solving expertise by recommending a critical design modification. The team suggested replacing the originally specified hidden fastener panel system with an exposed fastener panel, significantly improving the building’s weather resistance and long-term performance.
Crossland self-performed concrete work on the project and utilized Crossland Prefab services to enhance efficiency. The project serves as an excellent example of Crossland’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that benefit clients well beyond completion.
The company is particularly proud of the strong working relationships developed with both the owner, USD 506, and architecture firm Echelon A+D. These partnerships have already led to additional collaborations, including a hospital project in Coffeyville and an addition at VSE in Independence.
