At the Joplin Early Childhood Center, fun and learning go hand in hand for more than 320 enrolled students. The facility is geared toward the education of children ages 3 to 5. From the outside, children experience grand entryways, varying exterior colors and patterns, and a state-of-the-art playground. The building’s interior design is as visually impressive as it is tangibly functional. The space includes 20 classrooms, an administrative wing, and a multipurpose room; a learning space, complete with sand and water tables, fosters creativity and exposes children to different textures and four of the 20 classrooms serve double-duty as a storm shelter to protect the building’s inhabitants should another tornado threaten to strike the Joplin, Missouri area.
The new, 38,000 square foot structure was a labor of love. Construction site challenges and other issues threatened to delay Opening Day ceremonies. Crews came together with one goal – get these doors open and deliver something of which the city could be proud. In true Crossland form, we handed the completed project over to the district right on time.
This project received a 2018 Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors Heart of America Association.
